The Valluzzi oil mill has been producing a fine monovarietal extra virgin olive oil: La Majatica, for about fifty years in San Mauro Forte, a village in the hills of Matera in Basilicata, The Majatica cultivar is a typical variety of this small area of Basilicata, where olive trees grow majestically and produce round, fleshy fruit to obtain a high quality oil. What we like about this product is the character with which it succeeds in transmitting the particular characteristics of this dual-purpose olive: an oil that expresses the bitter, gentle and slightly fruity taste, symbol of the Lucanian hills parched by the sun.
La Majatica oil is limpid, with a beautiful intense golden yellow color with light green hues. The nose is elegant and complex, characterized by vegetable notes of lettuce and artichoke, complemented by hints of unripe tomato and almond. The mouthfeel is fine and enveloping, with tones of aromatic herbs, reminiscent of basil, mint and rosemary, and spicy nuances of cinnamon and black pepper. Bitterness and pungency are present and harmonious.
