La Selvotta
The Azienda Agricola La Selvotta is located on the Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, among the sweet hills of Vasto. The Sputore family has been pursuing extra virgin olive oil production in the family mill for three generations.
The company cultivars are: Leccino, Gentile di Chieti, I-77, Peranzana, Oliva Grossa and the local Vasto cultivar - Nebbio - which is also a Slow Food Praesidium. For the most part, Nebbio plants are centuries-old, and the owners - Giovanni and Elio - take care of them with passion and devotion.
La Selvotta’s harvest start at the beginning of October, when the earlier varieties are harvested, followed by the other varieties, until the beginning of December. This is one of the company’s motto’s - respecting Nature’s time and local traditions - combined however with modern harvesting techniques, that allow olive pressing within a few hours, obtaining an extra virgin olive oil with intact organoleptic properties, also thanks to the modern press.
