Description

The Benza family is an ancient family of oil millers who have been working in Dolcedo since the 15th century. The cultivar used at the Oil Mill is the Taggiasca, which finds an ideal habitat here. The name Olio di Benza is a Latin homage to Dolcedo, the main town of the lower Prino Valley: Dulcedo extra virgin olive oil thus conveys the culture of an ancient history. We like this product, in which the spicy and bitter flavors mix with the sweetness of the Taggiasca olives, because it is tasty yet well-balanced.

Tasting Notes

The unfiltered Dulcedo extra virgin olive oil has a beautifully intense golden yellow color with greenish nuances. The nose is ample and enveloping, with elegant vegetable notes of artichoke and lettuce, and balsamic hints of basil, mint and rosemary. The mouthfeel is complex and fine, with tones of wild chicory and a definite almond finish. Distinct bitterness and pungency are present and well harmonized.
